Built by a division of Toyota, this Hijet Cargo mini truck is the perfect UTV for moving people and gear while keeping them all out of the weather in the air conditioning or heat. Whether you need to move four people and some gear, or whether you want to max out on gear, including things up to 8 ft 8 in long, and just leave space for you as the driver, this is the off-road UTV for you. With its 4×4 powertrain, off-road rims and tires, and practical feature set, this Hijet Cargo is a great option particularly for operations with large private campuses, such as colleges and manufacturing facilities.

Engine & powertrain

This Cargo model has a 660cc KF-series three-cylinder engine, mounted under the front of the cab for stability and a lower center of gravity. More sophisticated than a regular UTV engine, this unit runs on gasoline and has electronic fuel injection to return well over 35 MPG fuel economy (almost double that of a regular UTV) but with such quiet running that you won’t even notice it’s running compared with noisier competitors. Maximum torque kicks in at 4,000 rpm so it has more than enough for any hauling tasks you care to throw at it. This particular model comes with a CVT automatic transmission characterized by smooth, step-free acceleration and (of course) the ease of not needing you to shift. Putting the power down through those off-road wheels is the job of the electronic 4×4 system that monitors traction and switches automatically between two- and four-wheel drive as conditions require. (Note that these Cargo models do not have a locking rear differential.)

Interior & comfort

This Cargo model has a weatherproof cab with air conditioning, heat, and a defroster as standard to keep things comfortable for you and up to 3 additional passengers in any season. You’ll find the seats are more comfortable than the basic plastic ones you find in typical UTVs. Plus, the front seats are adjustable, with the rear seat being a bench seat serviced by wide-opening sliding doors on both sides. It’s so easy to keep things tidy with the glove box, large door pockets, and even cup holders. So whether you need to move people or cargo around your off-road property while keeping them all comfortable and out of the elements, this Hijet Cargo Japanese mini truck is the one for you.

load bed & hauling

Even with the rear seats in place, the cargo area is 3 ft 5 inches deep, but with them folded down, you have a boxy space that’s 6 ft 3 in deep, 4 ft 11 in high, and 4 ft 7 inch wide — a massive 140 cubic feet. Keep the rear seats folded down and stow the front passenger seat, and you have an even larger space, capable of taking long items up to 8 ft 8 inch long. The rear hatch opens wide and high, and has no lip, so loading and access is easy via the rear, or through the wide sliding doors on each side.
