Built by a division of Toyota, this Hijet Deckvan mini truck is the perfect UTV for moving people and gear. Wide rear sliding doors make access to the rear seats easy, and those same seats can be folded flat for more weather-protected hauling capacity if you need that instead. Whether you’re going hunting in the wilderness with your buddies, or taking your grandkids with you around the ranch, this Deckvan model hits the right balance between moving people and gear. With its 4×4 powertrain, off-road rims and tires, and practical feature set, this Hijet Deckvan is both great value and a real step up from what you’re used to with regular UTVs from companies like John Deere.

Engine & powertrain

This Deckvan model has a 660cc KF-series three-cylinder engine, mounted under the front of the cab for stability and a lower center of gravity. More sophisticated than a regular UTV engine, this unit runs on gasoline and has electronic fuel injection to return well over 35 MPG fuel economy (almost double that of a regular UTV) but with such quiet running that even using it around highly strung livestock isn’t a problem. Maximum torque kicks in at 4,000 rpm so it has more than enough for any hauling or climbing tasks you care to throw at it. This particular model comes with a CVT automatic transmission characterized by smooth, step-free acceleration and (of course) the ease of not needing you to shift. Putting the power down through those off-road wheels is the job of the electronic 4×4 system that monitors traction and switches automatically between two- and four-wheel drive as conditions require. (Note that these Deckvan models do not have a locking rear differential.)

Interior & comfort

This Deckvan model has a weatherproof cab with air conditioning, heat, and a defroster as standard to keep things comfortable in any season. You’ll find the seats are more comfortable than the basic plastic ones you find in typical UTVs. Plus, the front seats are adjustable, and the rear seats can be split 60/40 or fully stowed to turn the rear area of the cab into another space to haul gear out, but keeping it out of the weather. And it’s so easy to keep things tidy with the glove box, large door pockets, and even cup holders. So whether you need to drive your crew around off-road, or you just need more flexible options for hauling, this Deckvan has everything you need.

load bed & hauling

With a box that’s 2 ft 10 in long, 4 ft 6 in wide, and 2 ft deep, there’s more space than you would expect even with that extra-long crew cab up front. And with a load capacity of 800 lbs, you won’t find this Deckvan lacking when it comes to hauling. The gate drops down low and has no lip, so loading and access is easy. It’s the same story in the rear of the crew cab when you have the seats stowed as the rear sliding doors provide wide access to anything you have back there.
