Engine & powertrain
This Hijet Regular Cab model has a 660cc KF-series three-cylinder engine, mounted under the cab for stability and a lower center of gravity. More sophisticated than a regular UTV engine, this unit runs on gasoline and has electronic fuel injection to return well over 35 MPG fuel economy (almost double that of a regular UTV) but with such quiet running that even using it around highly strung livestock isn’t a problem. Maximum torque kicks in at 4,000 rpm so it has more than enough for any hauling or climbing tasks you care to throw at it.
This model comes with a 5-speed manual transmission that has built-in hi-lo selectable range so you’re in full control at all times. This is particularly useful in the most extreme off-road situations when you are ascending or descending very steep terrain when selecting the ultra-low range gives you the ultimate level of control and torque pulling power. That extra torque push can also be very useful if you’re towing a loaded trailer, helping you build momentum smoothly even on the slipperiest surfaces. Putting the power down through those off-road wheels is the job of the electronic 4×4 system that monitors traction and switches automatically between two- and four-wheel drive as conditions require. And if things get particularly sticky, there’s a rear locking diff to maximize traction.
Interior & comfort
This Regular Cab model has a weatherproof cab with air conditioning, heat, and a defroster as standard to keep things comfortable in any season. You’ll find the seats are more comfortable than the basic plastic ones you find in typical UTVs, but with the hard-wearing water-resistant practicality you expect from a working vehicle. Plus, it’s so easy to keep things tidy with the glove box, large door pockets, and even cup holders. Striking the right balance between practicality, durability, an comfort, this cab is the place you’ll want to be when you have to go out into your fields to work.
load bed & hauling
With the longest bed of any Japanese mini truck at 6 feet 8 inches, this Regular Cab model has more space than you’ll find in any work UTV or, indeed, in many much larger non-UTVs. It’s also 4 feet 7 inches wide and 11 inches deep. Not only does this give you a lot of space to haul all kinds of things, from feed bags to fence posts, but its maximum load capacity of 1,500 lbs means that you can really fill up that space without worrying whether it will be able to handle the weight. And once you get where you need to go and start off-loading, just drop the sides or rear gate to get easy access without having to strain to reach in. With the bed just over 2 feet off the ground, this makes things as easy as possible on your back.
