Built by a division of Toyota, this Hijet Scissor Dump has all the space and comfort of the normal Hijet Jumbo model, with its extended cab and extra headroom. (Yes, 6′ 3″, 300lb guys, this Scissor Dump has you covered.) But its real party trick is having a box that both dumps towards the rear (just like our other dump models) and also lifts horizontally to make a 6’5″ high platform you can work from, or even hunt from. So whether you’re putting up Christmas decorations in your municipality or heading into the woods to hunt, this Scissor Dump with its 4×4 powertrain, off-road rims and tires will be a great partner.

Engine & powertrain

This Hijet Scissor Dump has a 660cc KF-series three-cylinder engine, mounted low under the cab for stability and a lower center of gravity. More sophisticated than a typical UTV engine, it runs on gasoline and has electronic fuel injection for over 35 MPG fuel economy (almost double that of a regular UTV) and such quiet running that you can use it around highly strung livestock without any issue. Maximum torque kicks in at 4,000 rpm so it has more than enough for any hauling or climbing tasks you throw at it.

This model comes with a CVT automatic transmission characterized by smooth, step-free acceleration and (of course) the ease of not needing to shift. Putting the power down through those off-road wheels is the job of the 4×4 system that monitors traction and switches automatically between two- and four-wheel drive as conditions require. And if things get particularly sticky, there’s also a rear locking diff to maximize traction.

Interior & comfort

The spacious weatherproof cab has standard air conditioning, heat, and defroster to keep things pleasant in any season. Whatever your size, you’ll find the adjustable seats help you get comfortable right away. Then there are power windows, power steering, and powered door locks that elevate the equipment level on this Scissor Dump far beyond what you would expect from a UTV. Keeping things tidy, there’s a glove box, large door pockets, cup holders, and even an overhead storage shelf for smaller items. The overall sense is of a well-designed, comfortable interior crafted with durable materials that will last.

load bed & hauling

The Hijet Scissor Dump’s load bed can both dump towards the rear of the mini truck, and can also be raised as a horizontal platform up to 6’5″ above the ground, giving it a range of functionality completely unmatched by any other off-road UTV. To dump, set the lever to ‘dump’ mode and flip the switch in the cab. To raise the bed horizontally, just return it to its default position, set the lever to ‘lift’ mode, and flip the switch in the cab again.

The bed measures 5 feet 3 inches long, making it shorter than the HD Dump models but still giving you lots of space to haul stuff, and a lot more than you will find in those on regular UTVs. With a 1,500 lb load capacity and dimensions of just over 4 feet 7 inches wide and 11 inches deep, it’s perfect for carrying fence posts, feed bags and more, as well as being able to do some serious dumping. Plus, even though the bed is reinforced and built tougher than its equivalent on the fixed bed Jumbo model, it still has the same drop sides and drop rear gate features that make loading and off-loading a breeze.
